Alani sat quietly at a table in the cafeteria, poking at her food but not eating. She wasn't sure what to think of Skye and Shou, who would both be there any minute if all went as planned. They were far different from any of her other "friends" and she wasn't sure if that was good or bad. After all, from what she had seen, they had been in trouble quite a bit, but it was exciting in a way. And it was definitely better than her usual drab life on campus.
She had debated for almost a full hour about whether or not she would meet them, and in the end had just headed to the cafeteria and attempted to push the thought out of her mind. She hadn't seen them around, and had no idea where they usually sat, but she decided she would wait for them and approach them after they had sat down. Part of her hoped they would see her sitting alone and invite her over, but she didn't know what would happen. So she waited in thoughtful silence, and focused mostly on keeping calm.
||Sorry it sucks. . . and this will probably be my last post until I finish my report.||

Skye bounded into the cafeteria, gWell, that could have gone worse.h She said, grabbing a try and queuing up to get some food. She passed by the vegetable trays and grabbed two burritos and a packet of potato fries, gOh, dude, grab me some ketchup.h She called over her shoulder as she scanned the cafeteria, her usual group was sitting towards the door, but she didnft see Alani. gDo you see her?h she asked, not realizing that Shou was still getting his food. She squinted her eyes and looked over the crowded cafeteria, gMaybe we missed her.h She muttered, popping a fry into her mouth.
gOh, there she is,h she said, raising her hand and waving at Alana, gHey, hey, hey.h She shouted, making her way over to the table. gDid you wait long? Sorry we took so long.h She apologized, plopping her tray down across from Alanifs. She picked up her burrito and sniffed it cautiously before taking a small bite. gI canft stand bean burritos, but for some stupid reason they put the meat ones and bean ones on the same platter, isnft that annoying?h she grumbled, picking a fry off of her plate and shoving it into her burrito, gShredded beef and French fries go well together.h She explained.

gWith ketchup on it as well, I suppose.h Shou commented, setting his tray down next to Alanifs, gDonft mind her eating habits, therefs something wrong with them, but we donft waste our time trying to figure her out.h He said, rolling his eyes at the girl in front of him, gAnyways, at least you and me are having a nutritious meal.h He poked the green beans and corn on the cob sitting on his plate, gThough, I had to pass on the brussel sprouts.h He flicked a packet of ketchup at Skyefs tray, gThere you go.h
After slicing his burrito into strips, he slowly ate them one at a time, gWell, we didnft get too bad of a punishment.h He said in between bites, gWe have office cleaning for one week. Thatfs a pretty cushy punishment, Ifd say. Unless we get the C Wing, which we probably will, in that case wefre in big do-do.h He made gagging motions, gMost of the staff keep their offices neat and tidy, all you have to do is throw away the paper cups, dust lightly, and vacuum.h He shook his head slowly, gC Wing is where they keep Dangerfield when hefs not doing basic training. Itfs like this big huge garbage dump and it smells even worse. I donft think he ever washes his uniforms and I donft even want to think about all of the empty food cartons and cans.h He shuddered involuntarily, gAt least hefs doing basic training now and wonft be littering it up every day.h

Once again, Alani was completely amazed by the pair before her. Skye she found more funny, but Shou had an almost frightening aspect to him, and she was constantly aware that she didn't really know him. He could be anyone. He could be Ukwtakun. She shuddered at the thought, but then mentally shook it off. Of course he wasn't, it was just. . . Well, Shou seemed almost dark at times, as if within him there was something very troubling. She couldn't place her finger on it, but it did frighten her, if only a little.
"Are you making that up?" She asked quietly, looking at Shou with wide, doe-like eyes. "Dangerfield can't be that bad. Right?" She swallowed nervously. It would only be a few months now until she started basic training, and she'd heard stories about Dangerfield, but had no idea how true they were. This was just one more thing to add to her worries. If the man couldn't even keep things clean, what kind of a trainer would he be?
"What is he like?" She whispered. "Is he very. . . cruel?"

Skye shrugged her shoulders, "I wouldn't know, I haven't been though basic training. He hates Shou though, but then, Dangerfield hates everyone." she rolled her eyes.
"It can't be too bad though, I mean they make it tough, but in the end they don't want to kill you off." she stuffed a fry into her mouth, "At least, that's what they say and I don't think anyone's died yet."
She gave Shou's chair a shove, "Right?"

"Well. . ." Alani bit her lip nervously as she mulled over what Skye had said. "I guess that's good. Right?" She looked from Skye to Shou, the overwhelmed and nervous expression never leaving her face. She swallowed and kept her gaze on Shou as she asked, "She's right, isn't she? That no one has ever died, I mean?"

Shou shrugged his shoulders, "You'd be suprised what people can live through when they fear death enough." he said, giving a quick side kick to Skye's chair without taking his eyes off of his food. After taking a few more bites he pushed his food back and leaned back in his chair. He openly stared at Alani, not looking away even when the she noticed his gaze. She seemed alright enough, probably would get along with Skye, though she seemed to be more quiet then the chatterbox sitting next to him. He didn't have many friends, even though he hung out with Skye's group. They only seemed to like hyper talkative people. He didn't mind though, they were amusing enough to watch. He smirked, "Skye, better finish up your report before tomorrow. You're gonna be busy with cleaning." he stood up and grabbed his tray. "See you in the rec room." he said, walking away from the two girls.
