Of all the bad days he'd ever had, this had to be one of the worst. Elijah sighed as he sat down at a table in the cafeteria with his tray of food. Despite the fact that the food on campus was actually pretty good, he didn't feel like eating. In fact, probably the only reason he was bothering to eat at all was that he knew he'd need his energy later to tackle the mounds of assignments his teachers had piled on before going to the gym to run off his stress.
He sighed again as he stared off into space, not really seeing anything that was in front of him. Instead, he was seeing the events of the day, played back in slow-motion, over and over again. It had started with him sleeping through his alarm and waking almost an hour and a half later than he'd meant to. Consequently, he had missed both breakfast and most of his first class. This resulted in a rather lengthy lecture from his German teacher, plus a punishment essay--500 words and written in German--due the next day. After that, he had been so stressed that he could barely focus, and he had thus received two more lectures--and extra assignments--before the day was even half over. At lunch, he was called to the Headmaster's office because the Junior Agent under his care had gotten into a fight with another Junior Agent. This resulted in both of them being assigned extra work (in the form of scrubbing toilets) for the next week. And so the day wore on, everything following the same pattern. By now, at nearly 17:00, he felt both so stressed he feared he might explode as well as so tired he could have fallen asleep right then and there.
I wonder where Jasmine is, he thought, running a hand through his tousled blonde hair. He sighed again, thinking suddenly of how he needed a haircut. I should shave it all off, he thought, half-laughing at the thought. The last time he'd shaved his head, he'd been dubbed "Dumbo" by his friends. It was a fitting name, actually, since his ears tended to look rather large when they had no hair covering or surrounding them.
As he took a bite of his food, he suddenly realized just how hungry he was. Though, now that he thought about it, he'd missed both breakfast and lunch. It made sense that he would be hungry, then. He shook his head and took another bite.
Suddenly, he felt a familiar headache-y sort of feeling spreading from his temples to his forehead. He groaned inwardly and closed his eyes as his right hand reached up to run his temple. Not now, he begged silently, but it did no good. The headache spread, and within seconds he was somewhere else, seeing things that had nothing to do with himself or anything that had happened that day.

Jasmine pranced down the hallway, her black ponytail bouncing up and down. She had just gotten rid of her junior agent, meaning that she didn't have any punishments that she hadn't earned herself. Of course she would go congradulate the new senior agent and tell her what a nice girl she had been to work with, but at the moment the happiness of being free overcame all politeness that she might have.
Realizing that she had skipped past the cafeteria she took a few steps back and pushed the swinging door in. After apologizing to the kid she had slammed the door into, she grabbed a tray and moved quickly through the line, deciding that she deserved a treat, she picked only the unhealthiest looking foods. Chocolate pudding, chocolate cake, and of course a healthy dose of chocolate ice cream. Spotting Eli across the room, she started making her way towards him. She called his name loudly, causing half of the room to turn and look at her. Nodding her head at them she yelled again. A few of them gave her dirty looks and turned back to their food. She wasn't quite the typical "goth girl" that many of them thought her to be at first glance. Of course she knew how to play the part of one, but didn't because it just wasn't her.
Plopping her tray down next to Eli's she pulled a chair out and sat down, "Yo, we got a full menu of chocolate--Hey, are you okay?" she asked, leaning over to peer into her friend's face.

Eli's hazel eyes blinked open mere seconds after Jasmine sat down. He had heard her calling his name, but hadn't been able to move even a muscle. Now, as he took in her concerned look, he winced. "Yeah, I'm fine," he muttered, shrugging it off. Honestly, though, he wasn't fine. The spaghetti sauce on his plate suddenly reminded him of blood and he felt like throwing up.
He tried not to think about what he had seen--experienced, even--but it kept playing through his mind, much like the memories of his day had been doing only minutes before.
He'd been standing in what seemed to be an abandoned warehouse when someone about the size and build of an athletic teenage girl walked in through aside door. Her face was hidden in shadows, so he couldn't tell who it was. She took another stop forward, then called out a hesitant "Hello?" before taking another step forward, then another.
Suddenly, another figure emerged from the shadows very near Eli. "Ah," he said, the sneer in his voice very plain, "so you decided to show after all." He shook his head and laughed. "Come here, then, girl. And be quick about it!" When the girl rushed forward, Eli could see that there was some sort of box in her hands. "Give it to me," the man had demanded, snatching the box away. He opened it, shook his head, then threw the box to the ground.
"Wait!" The girl shouted, but it was too late. The man merely stared at her, and she suddenly crumpled to the ground, lifeless. Blood was pouring from her pores, eyes, everything, and all Eli could do was stand by and watch.
Now, back in the cafeteria, it was all he could do to keep from getting up and running away, probably to hide himself somewhere until he calmed down. He'd never seen so much blood in his entire life, and what he had seen was as real to him as Jasmine sitting beside him right then. He forced a smile, hoping his friend wouldn't be able to see through his facade. "So, what's going on? Why all the chocolate? You're going to get fat and die one day if you don't start eating better, you know."

Jasmine rolled her eyes, "One day is a long day away. You must have forgotten where we live, Eli. If we're over one pound over our average weight, we go on strict diet and exercise." she took a large spoonful of ice cream and crammed it into her mouth.
"So," she said through her mouthful of ice cream, "What new vision did you have? Some message from green aliens?" she snorted, causing ice cream to go up her nose and send her into a coughing fit. "Ughhh." she groaned.
"You know, you should really learn to control your visions. Like, learn to block them or something. Don't they have a course on learning to control your skills? I went to one where they taught me how not to turn into a cat when I went to the bathroom." she shuddered, "That was a bad time."
Flicking bangs out of her face, she pushed her tray away, "I'm gonna go get a piece of pizza. Do you want anything?" she asked, standing up, "A piece of chocolate pie, maybe?" After looking at Eli's face though, she decided to sit down again, "Dude, you look horrible. Why don't you go see the nurse? Maybe you can get out of doing your toilet cleaning job." she suggested.

Eli smiled slightly at the thought of Jasmine going on a diet or having to do extra exercise. "It'd serve you right if you had to," he joked.
He rolled his eyes as she made light of his visions. You try having them, he thought bitterly. Instead of saying this, though, he merely shook his head. "Do you honestly think if I could control them I'd still be having them?" He wanted to shout the words at her, but instead his voice came out in it's normal tone, without the slightest trace of irritation. "Believe me, if I could I'd make it so I'd never have another vision again."
He was shaking his head to her question about food, but he stopped when she mentioned going to the nurse. Though the thought of getting out of cleaning toilets was appealing, he didn't want anyone to know what he'd seen. "No way, Jas. You can't tell anyone about this, okay? Dr. K will want to know, and then. . ." he shook his head again. "Promise me you won't tell or I'll disappear forever." To prove his point, he made his body turn invisible, then leaned close to her ear and whispered, "Got it?"

Jasmine shuddered as she felt Eli's breath against the back of her neck. She hated it when he turned invisible. "I can't tell anyone about what? What will Dr. K want to know?" she asked, squinting her eyes and looking around slowly, "Eli, you can't keep secrets from me." she pleaded, "I tell you everything, don't I?" She quickly crossed her fingers under her chair.
She grabbed a handful of pudding and flung in the direction where Eli's voice had come from. To her dismay, the pudding fell to the floor. "Ugh, stupid." she groaned, "I hate you. Now, sit down here and tell me." she ordered, patting the chair next to her. "You know that you're going to tell me sooner or later anyways."
Turning back to her ice cream she said, "Cause if you don't, I'll have to torture you." she smirked, "You know what that means, don't you?" she glanced at the chair next to her, "Now, hurry up."

Elijah smirked at Jasmine's reaction to him turning invisible. He straightened and walked around to the other side of the table. "I can keep secrets if I want to. Everybody has secrets, Jasmine." He eyed her crossed fingers. "Even you."
He sighed and walked back to his chair, then turned visible again. "I'm not telling this time, okay?" He looked down at the spaghetti, shook his head, then took a drink of his water. "You hurry up," he said, smiling a little. In case you didn't notice, I'm done." He stood up and picked up his tray of almost untouched food. "Come on, just for trying to throw pudding at me, I'm going to make you run with me." He grinned broadly, having pushed his melancholy mood aside for the time being, and jerked his head to the side as if beckoning her. "Let's go."

Eilwen groaned and rubbed her head where the girl had hit her with the door. Ouch, that's going to leave a mark, she thought grimly as she walked over to find a seat in the cafeteria. She wasn't particularly hungry but she never was.
Sighing, she sat down and propped up her feet on another chair, not really caring how rude it was. She was exhausted from running laps and her brain hurt from the chemistry class she was currently flunking. Her ordinary good mood was further spoiled as she looked dowerly at the peas on her plate. Of all the vegetables, why peas? Did God have a personal vendetta against her this week? "What'd I ever do to you?" she muttered to whatever deity controlled her fate, stabbing a pea with vengeance. She gave it the evil eye before popping it into her mouth.
Her gaze was brought from her plate as she could have sworn she saw one of the other kids disappear into thin air. She scowled slightly, the use of their powers was prohibited in the hallways and cafeteria, only to be used if requested by one of the teachers or superiors for educational purposes. That didn't mean the rule didn't get broken (and frequently) but Eilwen didn't have the kind of luck other kids had with that. If she had even thought about breaking the rules she would have been busted.
She didn't know who the two kids were, only that they looked familiar. With as long as she'd been in the academy and with as friendly as she was, she really didn't have a lot of friends. She was too shy, or as one of her teachers had put it, too withdrawn. She didn't know why he'd said she was withdrawn, she was always laughing or smiling. She scowled again and took it out on her peas.

As he was passing by one of the tables, Eli got the strange feeling that someone was watching him. He turned his head to see a girl about his age sitting with her feet propped up, looking tired or upset--he couldn't decide which. He stopped walking and set his tray down on the table. "Hey. . ." he said cautiously. "You okay?" He half expected the girl to tell him to bug off, but he couldn't just walk by and pretend not to notice her, or the fact that she was sitting alone and didn't seem to be very happy.
||Blegh, short and not too inventive, sorry.
Ah, and. . . I'm not trying to be pushy or controlling, I swear. But, er. . . there's actually no rule that says they can't use their powers.||

Eilwen blinked and looked up, surprised to find herself under this boy's gaze. For a moment, her brain seemed to slow down and then halt completely before it dawned on her that he had asked her a question. Great, he probably thought she was a mental retard now, she thought. "I'll be alright," she flashed a quick smile. Her issues were her own and there was no point in dumping them on a complete stranger. "Though I'd be better if it weren't for the peas," she lamented humorously, nudging the offending green veggies on her plate.

Eli shot a quick glance at Jasmine before sitting down across from the girl. He hoped his friend wouldn't mind, but something wouldn't let him leave the table until he either knew what was bothering her, or she told him to go away. he held out his hand across the table. "I'm Eli, that's Jasmine. You're new, right?" He didn't really wait for a reply--he knew the answer, after all--before going on. "You know, you do have a pretty wide selection of things to eat here. You didn't have to pick peas just 'cause they were there. The lunch people can be kind of pushy if you take to long, but don't let them intimidate you." He flashed her a playful grin. "I could get you something else, if you want. Your wish is my command." His friendly, almost goofy, manner was mostly an attempt to put her at ease, which he doubted she was. "Seriously, anything you want. Just don't go like Jasmine and get all chocolate. Please."
||Eh, it's not too terribly important. I just wanted you to know. . . for future reference and all. ||

Startled though she was at his sudden appearance, Eilwen didn't mind the company. She did pause to wonder why he cared but brushed it aside. People were unfathomable, she'd learned that a long time ago. "So..." she thought on that for a moment and asked with a sly grin, "If I asked you to do the hoola on the tabletops you'd do it? Or does it only apply to food?" It was random, yes, but worth a shot, she thought.

"Um. . ." Eli hesitated, unsure of exactly how he should respond. "Well, I actually was referring to food. And, honestly, I'd really rather not do that." He offered a smile. "So, I didn't catch your name. What is it?" He felt sort of odd asking her name out of the blue, but he also felt odd talking to her like this when he didn't even know her name or anything. And he didn't want to risk her leaving without him knowing her name. Then, if they ever spoke again, he wouldn't know what to call her. Hey you would probably only get him a dirty look.

"Eilwen Glynis," she proffered her hand to shake but shot him a warning look. "And if you make one of those 'weird name' comments I'll use my peas as ammo." It was a friendly kind of warning, like a joke to be shared between friends. She was probably too easy going to actually make good on her threats but some people deserved to be hit with a spoonful of those wretched vegetables. "Sorry, I had to ask. So... Eli? What brings you to the not-so-wildly-fascinating-world of Eilwen? Do you just... make round at the cafeteria and make sure everyone's satisfied?" She supposed her humor could have been misconstrued as being rude but really she was trying to joke. Anything not to focus on herself. She brought her feet down from her chair and stretched, wincing as her back popped. Oh, that hurt. She finished the last of her lunch (she hadn't taken much to begin with) and pushed the plate away.

"Actually," Eli said, smiling a little as he shook her hand, "I was going to say that's a really cool name. I mean, Elijah isn't cool at all. I might as well have been Bob for how exciting my name is. At least you know no one else has your name." He felt his face turn a little pink at the question. "No, you just seemed. . . upset." He didn't mention that he'd caught her looking at him, since he figured that would seem rather awkward. He winced along with her as her back popped. "That sounded like it hurt."
